Wedding planning is such a sweet and exciting time but can quickly turn sour as feelings of being overwhelmed creep up. From crunching the numbers in order to create a budget to selecting a menu you both love, there will be some tough conversations and moments. Below are 4 tips on how to navigate wedding planning stress that might come along the way.

  1. Have regular check ins with your partner. Although you may take the reigns and steer the ship on wedding planning, be sure to check in with your partner and get their opinions. They may not know the best ways to provide their input or what would be helpful, so asking detailed questions might help spur some thoughts. Below is an example:

    1. Our options for protein during dinner are X,Y,Z. Do you have a preference? Maybe I could choose one and you choose the other?

  2. Have open and honest discussions regarding budget and be willing to adjust as needed. Before beginning the planning process, sit down with you partner to establish a budget. I reccomend researching vendor costs in your local area and write out what it takes to accomplish yout dream day, and decided on non-negotiables. Throughout the planning process, be upfront with your partner when you notice you are nearing the cap of your budget or have gone over. Create a plan together for next steps.

  3. Ask for/hire help. I love a good DIY project, but truly take the time to assess your capacity, budget, and strengths and weakenesses. They aren't as easy or cost effective as they may seem and you could spend more in the long run to correct what didn't work. See where you can outsource and get help to remove one thing from your to do list. I am a bit bias, but a coordinator could be one of the best "bang for your buck" services to outsource. Get support and peace of mind to know things are taken care of. That's priceless in my opinion!

  4. Take a step back and go on date night. You might be tempted to focus on all things weddings and cut out date nights to save money. Be creative with what you do to enjoy each other's company and don't make every conversation about the wedding. Don't lose sight of why you love each other and want to be together forever.

Again, some of the discussions may be dififuclt in the moment, but they can save you some stress in the long run. Enjoy the planning process and embrace your love for one another!
